Painting an old Bombay Company table

We've had this little table in all our homes, in every sort of room. It has lived in our foyer with a vase on it for the last 11 years. Until now!! Yes, I'm painting another piece of furniture.  (Then I'll go to rehab.) I decided to finally try Annie Sloan's Chalk Paint for the coverage over the dark brown. Here is my niece Cari dry brushing the Louis Blue.

Almost done.

The measuring was easy. I made a pencil mark in the center of the table. Then I used a square coaster to draw the first square in the middle. I continued to use the coaster to mark all the diamond shapes. After that I used a ruler to check spacing.

The taping took longer than the painting as it took moving the tape several (many) to get every diamonds just right.

I left the legs just as they were.

Used tape. Remember to remove the tape pretty quickly after painting. The iPad was for looking at other blogs doing this. Also note new chair seat covers. :)

It looks pretty good. I did 3 light coats on on the white diamonds but I didn't make it perfectly cover the blue.

The lines came out pretty good!

Next step: using a light sanding block to age the top and make it completely smooth and a little worn. Yes, this left evidence of painting mistakes but I think it adds charm. Really!

See? Charming.

Maia thought green dots that match our placemats would look great so I mixed some craft paint and used a bobby pin to create the dots. They are actually lighter green.

Last but not least, I covered the entire table with Annie Sloan soft wax. Two coats. I used a soft cloth for buffing.
You can see the white paint jar behind the wax can. It is "Old White".

I wish you could see the glow from the wax! So pretty.

Complete!!

Now this little table holds our table napkins. If you are wondering why I chose blue. Watch this space for my next project! :)

Moved to Facebook but I'll try to post here too.

Hi Folks,

I've moved my creations and inspirations to my family Facebook page. It just seems I'm always there and my family loves to see how I change things around (impulsively).

Here is a group of photos from some projects I've done for our little Lake House in Missouri. We love to go there in the summer and visit with the Conway side of the family.

This the is the door of a set of books cases made by my late father-in-law for my husband. The webbing on the doors was in pretty bad shape so I decided it would be one of my makeovers.

After removing the webbing, I made a template from poster board.

Then I glued and stapled the "leather" insert in each door.
This is the almost finished door. I still needed to touch up the wood.

The doors came out very good and my husband was happy. :)

Here are two pictures I got very cheaply at a little shop.
The one on the right is the before. The left picture is the after". Look what smoking in
your home does to your lovely home decor items.
A little windex made it all better but  what about your lungs!!

This low table was left in the house by the
previous owners and we used it as an
art table for the girls when they were younger.
Now it's our coffee table. I've painted it "Breadcrumb"
to brighten the living room.

Here is the little table we've used as an end table.
It was black but now I'm going for "Breadcrumb".

Here they are -- painted and ready for the living room.

A new quilt to cover our "new" previously really ugly couch.

Well, it works sort of...

The couch being tested.

New woven shades to keep out the afternoon sun.
(from Pier One)

The kitchen table. It's a desk from Walmart and works great
as a prep table. We gather around it all the time. I had
painted the legs and apron black but I'm on a brightening
adventure. It's now a creamy white.

Here is the dining room with the new (old) white table from
our house. We've had it in storage and brought it here this
summmer. I painted the bench and little stool to match it.

Last, but not lease is the new picture wall.
I hung them low for some reason so this summer
I'll go up with new ones.

So that ends my projects from 2011!! Thanks for taking the tour.

Catching Up on Social Media

In 2018, I stopped posting here as I was using Facebook to interact with my family and friends. Now I’ve added an account on Instagram so I ...
